disk based web page

Susan

I use windows xp home ed. I'm trying to figure out if I
need to upgrade to XP professional. Could someone tell me
what is meant by "disk-based" web pages.

Windows XP Home Edition does not include or support any
versions (1.0, 2.0, 4.0) of Microsoft Personal Web Server
(PWS). Users that need Web server functionality in a
desktop operating system should use Windows XP
Professional.

NOTE: Microsoft FrontPage 2002 can use disk-based Web
pages in Windows XP Home Edition as an alternative.

Disk-based just means it's located on your hd but without a server running on your local machine. That's how I'm working right now...no local server. That means I can test some stuff prior to publishing but not any features that need the server to run (which if fine for the way I work right now).

If you anticipate wanting to fully test your web prior to publishing it to host online server, you should get XP Pro because Home does not support a server.
