Disc Drive Wrong

I have a DVD-RAM Drive that does DL DVD's etc. but after I used a registry
cleaner I think it removed its type as now it says its a CD Drive although it
still plays movies but in Windows Media Player wont let me burn music to a
CD-R disc which it should.

I can retrieve the old entry from my registry if you can tell me where
abouts it is or if not how I can fix it.

P.S. I have tried using device manager to remove and and re-install it and
it dosent work.

Use System Restore to a point prior to unleashing the Registry Cleaner.

Most of these damn things have a Backup provision in the form of .Reg
modules you can recover/import to undo their changes. Check the app
for any type of "Undo/Recovery" option and use it before uninstalling the
Registry Cleaner from your PC.

If you get your system recovered mark this down as a learning experience
about Registry Cleaning.

I cannot go back in system restore and I have a backup of an old registry but
its very old and if someone knows where the info that is lost is stored I can
just copy that part of the registry.

Have you looked to see if that reg cleaner has an undo feature? If not try
using system restore to go to a recent restore point. SR backs up a copy of
the registry.

This is just another example of why one should not sue a registry cleaner.
They cause more harm than good.

I know reg cleaners are more bad than good and I cant use system restore, I
just need to know where in the registry the infomation that was lost actually
is stored so I can use an old registy to fix it.

I don't know Rock--I think it's a *good* reason to "sue" a reg cleaner.

And the reg cleaner doesn't have an undo function? Sorry I don't know the
keys. Maybe someone else will jump in here. I am curious why is system
restore not available.

I keep system restore running, though I have limited the amount of space
allocated to it, SR is only good going back 1 or at most two weeks.

I also use ERUNT to make a daily backup of the registry. If set up properly
a backup of the registry can be restored from the recovery console. It's
worthwhile to have redundant/overlapping recovery mechanisms. As another
protection I regularly image the drives using Acronis True Image Home
version 10, saving the images on an external USB connected hard drive.

Hi,

......... I just need to know where in the registry the infomation that
was lost actually is stored.......

You have any idea how many places your info that may have been disolved
may have been located?

At least a couple of people asked you if you used your registry cleaners
undo option. Have you looked into that or not?

There's also a good chance that your registry cleaner wrote a log file
of what all it accomplished for you. Have you looked into that?
