disc cleanup

I cannot get disc cleanup to work it starts says it is calculating shows 3 green bars then just sits there

I'm getting the exact same situation today. The CPU

pegs at 100% and the process does not kill when you
cancel the disc cleanup in the dialog box. Any ideas?

Turn off 'compress old files'.
