I had this same problem, try this solution, it worked for me.......
When you run the Disk Cleanup utility, the program may stop responding (hang) while scanning for compressed files
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches\Compress Old File
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When prompted to "Confirm Key Delete," click Yes
Quit Registry Editor
