Hi there
Disc clean up stopped working - I'm not sure when exactly that happened -
and many other nagging problems have cropped up too. As you can quickly
tell, I'm a Windows MS Suite user and that's about it (can't fix it myself).
I've actually done a few things prior to having problems:
1- downloaded SP2 (automatic update) then removed it because it stopped me
from receiving emails (I hope I removed it proprely, using the add/remove
program)
2- tried many times over to download free trial of pc-cillin internet
security 2005 but that failed every single time
3- removed all symantec, norton and live update (I currently have the free
EZ Armor recommended by Microsoft.
since then, laptop has been extremely slow and regularly freezes up... hence
my trying to run disc clean up. I have a Sony Vaio PGC-TR3, with Windowx XP
Home edition. My C drive currently shows 12.9GB used and 1.05GB free - my d
drive shows 333MB used and 22.9GB free.
When I do try to to run disc clean up, one of two things happen:-
a) it gets stuck at the compress files option
b) if I close it, it never starts again, just quickly lights up and then
disappear.
I've tried to run "discmgr" from "run" but that did not solve the problem.
I've tried the links on the microsoft support, the one at kelly's corner
(line 48) that amend the registry but it did not fix the problem. I went
back to an earlier restore point then as I was not comfortable with having
amended the registry without much more advice.
Any one can help? I also need an anti-virus software but Norton seems to be
taking so much space.
I hope you can guide me in the right direction.
Many thanks for your kind help.
