I had a hardware failure. The DC was on a proliant server. I now try to
create/restore the old domain on a clone server. I install w2k server and
arcserve. than i restore system state. after that the system doesn't boot.
ntoskrnl is missing. in the manual they say i have to do emergency repair by
using the repair floppy. Now do I use the floppy made on the old compaq
server? when I do this it needs during the process all sorts of compaq
drivers who are totally irrelevant on a clone server. so i skipped them. But
it didn;t make my server run again.

I use Q263532 but is doesn't help me out at all. I would be thankfull if
anyone could help out a bit how to fix this and get my domain up and running
on a new hardware server without any running AD. I really need the old users
back :(

Sincerely
EvB

Hello Evan:

As far as the following error "the system doesn't boot, ntoskrnl.exe is
missing" may be caused by wrong arc path in boot.ini file.
Step 1. Try making a Windows 2000 boot floppy > Format a floppy on another
windows 2000 server > copy Ntldr, Ntdetect.com and boot..ini
Step2. Make sure boot.ini is pointing to the right partition.
Step3: Try to boot using the boot floppy.
Step4: If above process fail, then boot into windows 2000 recovery console
and check the ntoskrnl.exe file in system32 folder.
Step5 You can also run an in-place upgrade on the newly restored DC.

Have you get a chance to look @ following article
How to Move a Windows 2000 Installation to Different Hardware WGID:322 ID:
249694.
Thanks,
