Disapperaing letters through all applications and icons on the desktop

Hi everyone,
I'm having a funny trouble. The letters keep suddenly disapperaing no
matter what application I'm running. As well as the desktop icons
dissappear and just the little arrows indicating shortcuts stay.
This thing happens sometime when I'm loging back into my account from
login page and sometimes it happens when I'm working.
There is aother thing as well. I have chosen the "simply login screen"
(that screen with all accounts displayed with icons - you have to fill
in just the password) to log in to XP account, but the screen changes
into classic login screen (where you have to fill in login name and
password as well).
The screenshot of Google search page without the leters can be seen
here: http://webr.cz/crazy_win.jpg

My system is Windows XP Professional SP2

Thanks for any advice!
