Disappearing network icons

I am using AOL broadband and I need to access the "Internet 2" network icon which is supposed to appear when connected in order to enable Internet Connection Sharing for my laptop.

My problem is that my network icons regularly disappear from the Network and Dial_Up Conenctions window when I go online and now, I don't get the "Internet 2" icon at all so I can't share the connection.

I'd appreciate any help,
