Disappearing - desktop icons and programs.

I work in a computer lab in our local high school. We
are running XP Professional on 2 yr. old Dell desktop
computers. We have a recurring problem with icons
disappearing from the desktop, and even programs
disappearing from the start/programs menu.
Even when place in the All Users folder, Desktop and
Start Menu - they still disappear!
Any ideas?

Susan, not sure but this may help. Rt click on Start>Select
Properties>Taskbar>uncheck Hide Inactive Icons.
