Disappearing contacts

Hi everyone:

I know that this has been discussed before, but I know someone who was using
her computer in her outlook 2003 when she went to another window to work on
something else and then went back to outlook to send an email and when she
click on the to button to choose a contact, she noticed that some of her
contacts were missing. I said did you do anything that may have deleted them
or were you in your contacts at all? She said, no, she didn't do anything to
her contacts at all and she showed me that some of them were missing. Is
there some type of back up or anything that I can do to get them back or was
there something that happened that she might have done to lose them? I
realize that this is a very difficult question to answer given the little
information there is, but it sure would be nice to know how that happened and
how to get the missing contacts back. Thanks.

You realize, I assume, that the Outlook Address Book is simply a dynamic
list of addresses from Contacts and contains no data. Is your claim that
this data is actually missing from Contacts?

Actual Contact Records disappear at random for no reason from her default
Contacts Folder, not just the address book view? Are they gone for good or
do they return after a restart? Can you provide more information, like
information store, add-ins, etc.?

Yes, that's correct, the Actual Contact Records disappear at random for no
reason from her default Contacts Folder, not just the address book view. They
do not return after a restart. I wish I could provide you with more
information, unfortunately that is all the information I have.

Sure, if she created one. Outlook doesn't create one automatically.

@Russ - I can't speak for Mark, but the same thing is happening to me (hence
looking for/finding this thread). I troubleshot a little, and found that it
has to do with my second machine. I have two outlook 2007 clients, running
on two machines (home/work), and the contacts disappear when the other one
opens.
e.g. create contact on work machine. open home machine. sync both machines
to exchange server. Contact vanishes. not in deleted items, just gone.

Has this been seen before?

As I reported in a different thread I am seeing the same issue. All machines
are running in non-cache mode except for one. The user has an Admin who does
all of the updates to contact information. The contact that disappears is
different wach time and the issue is random in timing.

after a gruff slap on the wrist for cross-posting, i was told on another
thread that if there are two client machines involved, than this is an
exchange issue. would anyone happen to know which exchange forum/thread i
should pursue?

FWIW - my IT guy and i have confirmed this as a persistent issue in a
completely separate set of machines - it's reproducable in outlook 2007 with
2 xp machines accessing the same exchange store....yikes!

microsoft.public.exchange.admin or microsoft.public.exchange.clients,
possibly.
