Disabling Windows Picture and Fax Viewer

Eden Williams

I have ACD See on my computer and it will not run right
because most of the pictures(.bmp, and others) will not
run in acd see. They seem to want to come up in wp&fv so
what I want to do is disable it or let allow acd see to
work. Can anyone tell me where to either find that
particular program to disable it or tell me how to get
around it.

Don't use ACDSee, but most Imaging Pkgs. have a preference or option section
somewhere that lets you set associations for the files you want. Failing that
you can shift-right-click one of each type of image, choose "Open With", select
ACDsee, and click the "Always use this program" checkbox. You'll need to do
this once for each file type you want to open w/ACDSee. You will then be able
to open them in it with a double-click.

You can stop it getting in the way by removing the registry key

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image\ShellEx\
ContextMenuHandlers\ShellImagePreview

using regedit.exe
That will leave it still available as a right click option
