Disabling touchpad

I use an USB mouse on my notebook. Is there a way to disable the
touchpad other than raising the hood and unplugging it. Using XP Home.
Every time I disable it in device manager, it is promptly reinstalled.

Hello,

In the Synaptics software that comes with your laptop (if it is using that),
there is a option to disable the internal touchpad when an external mouse is
detected.

Locate the icon on the bottom right and you should be access the settings
panel by left/right clicking it.

That worked. My logitech driver had taken over the touch pad and the
disable button was greyed out. I reinstalled the synaptics driver and
was able to disable the touchpad.

Thanks

Actually there isn't. This is a Sam's special, Averatec. I've got it
disabled now, but the cursor and buttons do not work as well or as fast
in MSDOS programs as they did when both were enabled. What was
originally bothering me was the cursor jumping around. I would be
typing, as in this message and the cursor would jump up or down several
lines and I was constantly deleting and moving back to where I was. That
is now fixed.

Hi Gerald,

There should also be Function Key combination to disable the touch pad. On
my Toshiba it's "Fn + F9".
