Disable Messenger

Is their any way to disable Messenger from EVER loading,
but still use Outlook Express. I have never, and never
intend to, ever IM anyone.

After two months of frustrtion I finally found out how to
disable Messenger. First remove it in its own
preferences, then remove it in both Outlook and Outlook
Express, remove it from the Startup folder, check that
Norton antivirus setting scanning it is not enabled,....
you would think Microsoft wants to make sure you have
this running no matter what.

My problem now is that when you disable Messenger
suddenly Outlook Express will no longer startup. Why is
IM linked to email?

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Greetings Frank,

Outlook Express has integration with Messenger -- it will startup, but only after a long
delay (as it tries to load Messenger).

To stop Outlook Express from starting Messenger (and therefore solving your problem), simply
download and run this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/stopmessenger_oe.reg

After this you can start Outlook Express normally (Messenger will no longer be linked) and
Messenger can remain disabled.

Well Frank,

The trouble with msn, is that it is linked to many of
the programs on the windows programs. There isn't really
a way to get rid of it, you don't have to use it to IM
users, but it does help to get into some
programs/applications. Also, regarding it linked with
Outlook Express, well, OE is linked to Hotmail, therefore
you will need a passport to enable it to work. As I said
earlier, you do not need to IM users or ever have to. Any
more problems with this, feel free to e-mail me.
