Directx isnt working properly. . .

I tried updating my Directx 8.1 to 9.0b and during the
process it stops updating while sitting on the
file "d3dxof.dll" and then it says that directx was not
able to install a file and closes the operation. does it
every time. . And now if i try and go into dxdiag it will
only say that it had a fatal error and will close. Not
sure what to do.

You're a prime candidate to try an uninstall program because you're
close to the next step of reinstalling XP fresh and/or overlay. I have
