When I try to install Direct X 9.0b it says It hasn't
undergone XP Logo testing...So how do i fix it?

I tried downloading the newest DirectX(which i have to do
via a friends computer(this one) to get because I don't
have Internet access on my computer, I can't find the
entire install file, it only has the one that you
download like a 16 kb file, then it download/installs at
the same time. What can I do?

Hi James,

Download and install the complete DirectX 9.0b from:
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...-4c98-baf3-0c67e7f3751f/dx90update_redist.exe
*Antivirus / Firewalls can corrupt the download and installation,
it's highly recommended you disable them during this process.

If you continue to get the Logo Testing Error, read on.
You possibly disabled the Cryptography service by "tweaking"
XP using well intended but bad advice from a site or magazine.

1. Click Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services
Scroll down to "Cryptographic Services", double click it and
change Startup type to: Automatic and click the "Start" button.

2. The resolution at the bottom of this page worked for some users:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;813442

3. If the problem persists, go to c:\windows\system32 and rename
the catroot2 directory to catrootold. Catroot2 might be too full.

4. Save and then Open the "DX9 Logo Error" patch on Line 189
for WinXP at: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

5. Repairing Windows is our final option. Boot from your Windows
CD (you may have to press F12 while starting up, or change the
bootup order in your BIOS) and then follow the instructions at:
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm Good luck! :)

im having the same problem. i tried everything on the list escept reinstalling Windows from a cd, since i bought my computer without the Windows cds.
also, some of the windows updates arent installing, not sure if that is related.

i have dial-up, and admittedly need to update windows more frequently, but as it is it will take me 7 hours to get all the updates i dont have yet.

is reinstalling windows pretty much guaranteed to work? and would i lose any information?

any further comments on the matter would be greatly appreciated, as would an email

~thank you,
Avidya

Hi Avidya,

I put the repair option at the bottom of the list because it's the
last resort. If that doesn't work, then nothing will. You should
have received your Windows XP CD's when you bought your
computer with XP installed on it. The store must provide
them to you, or at least a restore CD.

One thing you can try before going through that trouble, is to...
Download and Install Service Pack 1a (Complete) from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...79-fa3a-48bf-ade5-023443e29d78&DisplayLang=en

That's the complete file you can download on a computer with
broadband access and then copy it to CD to install on yours.
