directx failure code 32 system crashes

Was wondering if my directx was corrupted. When I play any games or videos
my system crashes with no warning or error codes and restarts. I have gone
to windows update and updated everything as they suggested but my xbox is
still just color pixels with no images at all. I have an e-machine with
windows xp home edition I am not real experienced in computers. So a techie
I am not. I have tried restoring my system but can't go back far enough
before the problem. I think the problem started when I bought a game called
cake mania deluxe and it needed direct x 9.0 installed which it had on the
disk. After that it seemed my system wasn't the same anymore. I have
uninstalled the game completely But not sure what else to do. Could that
have been the problem and now I can't get rid of it????
