DirectX Error

J

Joe

I got this from a friend who is using XP Home

"I have bought a game to play on my pc and is compatible with XP but get
the attached error what does it mean and were would I look to find the
problem."

When she tries to use the game, which is called Blood Rayne, she gets this
message

"DirectX 3D Driver error Cannot create Hardware Vertex Processing Device.
Please check with your hardware manufacturer to make sure that your Video
Card indeed has hardware Vertex processing."

She has DirectX 9 installed.

The Video card is what came with the computer but she did have another Sound
Card installed which is a Vibra 128 so she could use messenger

Any suggestions please?

Thanks for the reply Chris.

I would imagine that the direct X nine would be all up to date, or do you
mean the Video Card please

What kind of video card is it? And did you check the cards website to make
sure it does hardware vertex processing? DX9 and the sound card have nothing
to do with it. If this is a newer game you going to need to update the video
card drivers or get a new gaming card that can handle these types of games.

Thanks for the reply Phil, unfortunately I am over 2000 miles away from her,
so the only thing that I can do is forward your question on and hope we get
an answer back.

I don't think the game is new as she only paid $10 AU for it, but it does
say it is for use with XP.

Ok, post back or just have her try updating the drivers. Hopefully that will
help. I'll monitor this thread for a few days at least.

Thanks Phil, she is going to contact the place where she got her computer
tomorrow so maybe they can help. She had it back for repairs with a week of
getting it so God knows what happened to it.

Be assured that I will post back as soon as I know anything.

She has done a scan with Everest and it shows that the direct x Vertex
Shader Version is not supported. I cannot show you the report as that would
involve an attachment and I don't think I'm allowed to do that here.

She says that she needs to upgrade the video card but thought that as it was
an old game it would be OK

Hello Kelly,

She has done DX DIAG and sent me the report, but she may have well sent me
the plans to the lunar underground for all I can understand about it.

Would you like me to send it to you?

Ya, sounds like a new video card is in order if she wants to game. Even
though its an old game, many oem machines put on-board, under-powered, video
cards in the machines in order to save money. If she wants to game and get a
new card take a look at ATI Radeons.

The latest reply re this problem.

She ascertained the details of her Video Card and updated the drives.

Well after all this work you and I have done no good it took me an 1Hr and
7min to down load the new drivers and I reloaded the game and same error
message so have unistalled it again.

I was reading through to note pad instalation rules and there refer to a
totally diffrent video card so am giving up thanks for you help any
way...Karyn

And thanks to you people too for the help that you gave.
