Directories disappaering

I have a directory called "Daten" (thats german for data.
Within that diretory there is a subdirectoriy "enterprise" (and other
directories) and then sub-sub-directories.
Never had any trouble with my XP home edition, but the sub-sub-directories
in "enterprise" are disappearing.
I have done a check disk and scan disk, to no avail. I happened again.

Any helpful hint.

P.s.: firewall, anti virus, spybot etc. are all working fine.

Open Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Options
Check if the first 5 items are checked and also check
Show Hidden files>Apply>OK out.
