Direct X

I need some help regarding installing Direct X on my
productivity system at home.
The operating system is Windows Professional 2000.
The games that require Direct X install fine on the
computer but the install wizard says that it is installing
Direct X but Direct X never gets installed.
Thus the games do not run properly.
When I install the game on my other computer (running
Windows XP) the wizard walks throught the game install and
then runs throught the Direct X install.
The difference is that on the Windows Professional 2000
System the install wizard goes right to finished when you
tell it "yes" install Direct X.
Any ideas?

Go to Start->Run and type dxdiag to see which version of DirectX is
currently installed on your system.
If this is not DirectX 9.0b or any problems are reported go to
www.microsoft.com/directx and download DirectX 9.0b from there.

Try dxinfo.exe. If that works then you definitely need to upgrade your
DirectX install. This is an early version of what has become
dxdiag.exe. It also means you are at least three versions behind on
DirectX.

Windows 2000 comes with DirectX 7.0, so normally dxdiag should be found.
You should try the DirectX 9.0b installation and see if that fixes your
DirectX. The DirectX installation checks if files are on your hard drive and
only replaces them when necessary.
