direct connection at GB level (xp or vista)

This is a question and a general comment as well.
Is it possible to setup a direct link at GB speed (with proper cabling and
nics of course) using this xp feature?

I'd expect yes, but don't want to install GB nic and find out that it's not
supported.

I came thinking about this when I found out that this feature was taken out
of Vista, considered obsolete. Since a LAN setup would include a GB switch,
that is rather costly (for just 2-3 pcs), this would be mandatory to exploit
GB nic cards under Vista (so I find this choice user-limiting rather than
"obsolete feature")...
(think of a recent laptop and a desktop pc with GB nic card, for instance)

(btw I am not splitting this issue which would be related to vista community
as well, it's just my comment on the go)

Thx for your attention,
Ricardo

Hi
If you want to connect only two computers you can install Giga NIC on each
and connect them with a CAT6 patch (No need for crossover giga NICs are MDX
and self detect the nature of the connection).
If your Network comprised of more than two you need a Giga capable switch. 4
ports Giga switches start at about $40.
Giga in General.
