Direct Cable Connection

Ray

I've spent all day trying to make a direct cable connection between my
Desktop computer with Win ME and my laptop with Win XP pro. It used to be
easy as pie, had nothing to do with whatever internet connection you had.
Now it seems like it's all intermingled. I've tried all the wizards, every
way it can be approached.

Can someone please tell me step by step what to do?

I have a crossover cable with RJ-45 jacks.

You might want to take a look at this article.

XP

Note: You can skip installing NetBEUI on the ME machine. As
long as both computers have TCP/IP installed you should be all
set.

Post back if you have any questions.

Good luck

I've gone through the same ordeal as you and I finally gave up ... until I
discovered the programme FastLynx 3.3 (see www.sewelldev.com) . It allows
you to connect two pc 's via a serial null modem cable. I used it to
transfer files from an ageing laptop with Win 95 to my new Win XP desktop
pc. The programme is a fully functional demo NOT limited in time. It can
handle files of up to 10 MB. If your files are bigger you have to use a
filesplitter first.
