"Dimension 4" -- Questions about settings

A

Art Renkes

I have used the time sync'ing program "Dimension 4" with my Win2K-SP4
system for the last year or two. If I open it manually, it will
correct my PC's time okay, but I haven't had much success at trying to
set it for automatic operation. I have set it to "load at startup"
and "sync once and then exit" -- expecting it to sync my PC's time
once at each startup and then exit. With this setting, it does load
at startup (as expected), but it fails to sync my clock and it fails
to exit. If I close it manually and then later re-open it manually,
it will sync my clock and exit automatically. Do any of you have any
comments or suggestions? TIA

With Win2k (and XP), depending on what time server you are sync'ing to, you
can run

NET TIME /SETSNTP:timeserver_dns_name_or_IP

and it will sync the time for you (without needing a 3rd-party program)

Thanks for your response and info. I'm still hoping to use a
third-party app to do the sync'ing automatically with no input from
me. I'm not sure if this is a viable option, but it sounds reasonable
to me -- if not with "Dimension 4" then possibly with some other 3rd
party program. (Has anyone out there accomplished this?)

You should be able to make a batch file with the NET TIME command and
put it in the Startup folder, then it will run at every login.

If you can't get Dimension 4 working, you might try another one called
Automachron. You can find it here... http://oneguycoding.com/

I think you can set it up to sync and exit.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. Right now "Atomic Clock
Sync" looks like it will do the job nicely. If I'm mistaken about
that, then I'll probably be back with more questions. Cheers.
