Digital Video Capture Via FireWire

I have just bought a Panasonic NV-GS15GN Digital Video Camera.

I wonder whether you can help me with an issue I am having when I capture
my video from the recorded Mini DV tape to my computer, using the FireWire
cable connection.

Everything works OK except for the fact that the recorded date/time stamp
somehow did not get captured to the AVI file on my computer.
When I playback the tape on the LCD screen of my camcorder, the date/time
comes out alright. I also have no problem displaying the recorded date/time
stamp when I connect my camcorder to my TV screen. I have also tried
recording my mini DV tape to VHS tape, and again I have no problem when I
playback the VHS tape - the date/time stamp is there.

Hi --

The date/time stamp stuff is stored per-frame in the "header"of the AVI file
you create; it's not actually encoded as text onto the video frame itself.

Your DV camera yanks the information from the tape, and displays this on
it's LCD (and since the display is what's sent to your TV, you see it there
as well) but since it's not actually encoded as text on the video, it
typically doesn't appear in captured files.

There might be some software packages that encode it into the video -- You
might try looking around and see what's available if you want to "see" the
date/time stamp on the video.
