Difficulty Adding a Sata HD

L

Lucky

I have a pair of IDE SG HD working fine and I have tried to install an
SG ST3400633AS Sata HD and cannot get my system to recognize this drive
when it is connected. I get the message:

HardWare Initiate failed, please check device!!!

The Bios does not be installed. Press <g> to continue!

I have a K8T800 MB with a VIA VT8237 chipset. I have already flashed
the the BIOS with the latest version and have entered the Bios and
enabled the peripherals for a sata drive without a solution .

I am out of ideas any suggestions please.

TIA

Have you checked the device in another comoputer?

Arno,

I don't have another machine to put the drive into and with all of the
fan noise I cannot hear if the drive is spinning or not. Although i
only get the error message when the drive is plugged in.

Folkert,

I am sorry but i forgot to mention that I did install those drivers.
All with no luck.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Spinning is not necessarily a sign of health. Modern drives
auto-spin, i.e. they start spinning when there is power.

I really think you need to try this disk in a different system.
At present I would say it is either a broken controller or a broken
disk. Unlikely, but possible (have seen it once so far) is
a broken or badly manufactured SATA cable.

Who said anything about drivers?

This is what was of interest:

"I had the same problem as described in the first post. I called ASUS tech
support at 502-995-0883, option 3. Turns out the K8V boards (*) do
NOT support SATA2 -- only 150mb/s SATA. I was able to add a jumper
across two pins at the back of the WD drive to make it run in "150mb/s
only" mode (directions were written on the label on the top of the drive).

That solved the problem. "

All with no luck.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Wouldn't it be nice if you actually bothered to do something with them.

This also solved my problem with the Seagate drive. See this link.
