Difficult Reboot Problem

here's the full story:
Up untill recently my Pc has been running great besdies a few common
kinks. Then it started having trouble with ANY newley installed game
program (the opening menus were all scrambled looking and they would
crash) and graphics card was working fine. So I checked for viruses and
used HJT, got nothing unusual. So I decided to run a windows repair
install (never hurts anyway...so I thought). Did that, then went to
reboot. Upon rebooting a warning came up right before booting into
windows which read "windows has trouble starting, it may have been shut
off wrong last time blah blah" so I click start windows normally.
Doesn't work. It restarts the comp then the same window comes up. I try
using all the given options (use last known good config, etc. etc.) and
it does the same thing. So I look for a little internet help and come
across this faq http://www.digitalwebcast.com/artic...afterinter=true
(page one of the faq). Did the first page, but NOW when I go to start
windows normally, the warning message still pops up, but NOw when I
selete something, it says something about this component missing:
\window\system32\config\system And when I try to do a repair install
NOW it just asks me if I want to install windows, and not do a repair.
Can anyone help me please? This is more advanced than I'm used to. I
know there's a way to get around an entire rewrite, that's what I'd
like to do, just a windows repair.

Try this:

1. Insert your Windows install CD and reboot

2a. If necessary, access your BIOS and set the boot order so that the system
will try to boot from the CD drive, before the Hard Drive. If you are not
sure how to access your BIOS, consult your motherboard manual.

2b. If step 2a was not necessary, wait until you see "To boot from the CD,
press any key....".

3. Wait for Windows setup to load completely and then when prompted, press R
to access the Recovery Console.

4. When prompted as to what Windows installation you would like to log onto,
if you only have one version of Windows installed on your computer, type "1"
without the quotes.

5. If you have a password on the Administrator account in Windows, type it
in now. If you did not set a password, leave the field blank and press
Enter.

6. You will now see a command line interface resembling that of DOS, and
your current line should say this:

C:\WINDOWS>

7. Type in the following (every new line is a seperate command):

cd c:\windows\repair
copy system c:\windows\system32\config

8. Now reboot. The computer should now boot normally.
