Differences between XP Embedded & XP Pro

C

Chris

We are looking to deploy an EPoS solution in a Windows
environment and would appreciate some help with our
questions. We have been evaluating XP Embedded so we
understand how it works. We are unclear as to whether XP
Pro provides us with the same degree of control over our
deployment as Embedded does.

What are the main differences between XP Pro & XP Embedded
with regards to:
A) Controlling which system components are installed.
Does XP Pro give us the same degree of control as Embedded?

B) Locking down the O/S to restrict access.

C) Deploying new or updated system components (e.g.
Microsoft updates).

D) Deploying our new or updated components.

A) Windows XP Embedded can be configured and customized Windows XP
Professional hardly.
B) Now quite sure that understand you, but in both cases you can prevent
unauthorized access.
C) Windows XP Prof like you already know is going trough fixes and
autoupdates from net.
Windows XP Embedded is tricky since you must create and provide update
scripts, files, etc for DUA (Device Update Agent) to work.
Some improvements to this are expected in future.
D) For XPe same as in bullet C.

Search and read more about DUA.

Slobodan
