Difference between C3903A and C3903F toner carts?

Alan

I have an HPLJ 5P.

When looking for a new compatible (not original HP) toner cart I found
some offering "C3903A" and others "C3903F". Sometimes the same product
used both numbers in different places.

These are HP product codes, and HP site lists both but does not
provide any obvious differentiation.
Both seem to have the same spec, nominal 4000 pages capacity.

I found one list of LJ models and toner carts that said the A was
compatible with LJ 5P and 6P, but for the F just 6P.
(Many parts are compatible between the 5P and 6P and I had thought
their printing engine was identical.)

The HP site does not say which LJs are compatible.

I just bought a box labelled C3903A but the cart inside it had a
sticker C3903F and fortunately it does work with my 5P.

So, does anyone know what if anything is the difference between C3903A
and C3903F?

Confusing, yes. The C3903F is listed as "Asia only". That could mean just
about anything - packaging differences, some regulatory thing, or nothing
much at all. Both it and C3903A apparently work in both LaserJet 6P and 5P
series, according to one HP document, although elsewhere they list the -F
as for the 6P series only.
