dialup password problems

Chris

hi all,
thanks is advance for the help.

a friend has a machine that we have put winxp on.
everything seems to be working great except.....
we had built a dialer to connect to the internet. he had
some company and "not me" made a change or two. now when
the dialer is called up (by outlook express, IE, or the
shortcut on the desktop) there is a 16 charactor password
in the box. if we hit "connect" we get an "invalid
username/password" error. we clear the 16 charator
password, put in the correct password, it connects just
fine.
we have removed the connection (deleted the dialer),
created a new connection (new dialer), and the 16
charactor password issue remains.
we are open for ideas/suggestions/fixes.

thanks again,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I can't help you with your specific problem, but I have
been wondering also why I get the extras on my password
next time I go to dialup, if I have ticked the checkbox
for "Save password" previously. When I click on connect,
It connects anyway with the longer password, (Without the
invalid username/password error), or if I delete it and
put my usual one in.

I am interested to see if anyone else knows anything
about this topic !!

Best regards,

Andrew Warren

Ooh! Me, me!! Don't be fooled by the number of characters in the password
field. The password you saved is there. XP spoofs the number of password
characters as a security measure.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the advice - I was fairly sure that it was
normal as I had seen it happening on a friends computer
also, but in the current virus/worm climate I am finding
myself paranoid about every little thing !!!

Cheers,

Andrew Warren
