dialup modem

I use verizon dsl for internet/email,etc.Problem is i
just installed windowsxp and now when i go to news groups
and click on one of my news groups the dialup modem comes
on and wants to connect.This never happened before when i
ran windowsme.I use the modem for fax and tty. Why does
it want to connect when i want to load news?
I've used my brain up on this one.

What are you using for a news reader? In Outlook Express, go to Tools,
Options, Connection to make adjustments. Point it to the DSL connector,
not the modem.
