Dial up Problems

I have windows XP home edition with Xp SP2 intalled and internet explorer
version 6. For some time now I have had problems with my dial up settings.
Everytime I log onto the internet, I find that Internet Explorer has
defaulted to 'never dial a connection' despite changing the setting to
'always dial my default connection' the setting is never saved and I have to
repeat the process everytime I want to use the internet. Can anyone tell me
how to fix this problem please?
