dial-up password problems with compuserve

Internet Explorer will not allow me to change my password
in the dial up connection section. It shows 16 digits
rather than my 5 digit password I enter, so when I use any
program with automatic internet connection, it comes back
"invalid user name or password, even though the dial
connection is initialized.

Look at the registry key.

How to Disable Internet Explorer Password Caching
The dialog box that prompts you for your security credentials contains a
check box to allow you to save the password so you do not have to type the
password again when you attempt to use the same document. This is known as
"password caching."
