I got this game to play on my Windows Vista computer but it doesn't work.
The graphics are psychedelic looking for lack of a better word. I contacted
Blizzard, and followed their instructions on how to fix it but it didn't
work. My next purchase will be Apple. Does anyone know how to fix this?

The resolution of the game is locked at 640x480 and 800x600. You can't
change it to widescreen. It's for fair game play so that all players see
the same map size. Same the original Starcraft.

You assume he's playing Diablo ][. He could be on Diablo 1.

3 words buddy, "Video Driver Update", or "Windows XP Downgrade"

Or, go out, and get your Apple, but don't forget your Vista CD so you can
run Boot Camp. Wouldn't want to not be able to play Diablo, right? Oh wait,
there's a Mac version of Diablo.

Oh, and I hope you're ready for Leopard...

Should of got your Apple sooner.

Okay, I guess that Apple comment was stupid,,,,I'm just frustrated with
Vista, none of my XP software works with it.

When you say "none of my XP software works", that to me says, there's
something wrong with the system like the OS software or hardware is failing.

Might want to have someone troubleshoot/diagnose your system. My Vista box
runs everything I've thrown at it. With little to no fuss above the "normal"
Windows NT level fuss. (which is a decent amount, but I thrive on it so it
doesn't bother me too much)

2 things you need to do, Get the latest DirectX runtime library update and
get the latest Application Compatiblity Update from the MS download center.

These come out every 3 months and fix specific program issues. Diablo and
Diablo 2 worked fine after I installed these updates On Vista Home Premium
x64.

Have you set the program to run in WinXP compatiblity mode ? try that as
well

Keep in mind Diablo was not written to run on Vista and many people have been
unable to get it going. I've had no problems with my XP software on Vista but
Diablo looked like garbage when it was new so it's going to look even worse
now. Operating systems, like everything else, move up and onward so you can't
always expect older titles to work. I got my copy of Diablo to work but after
seeing how bad it looks by today's standards I decided it wasn't worth
wasting hard drive space.

Installed D2,
Installed D2:LoD
Ran Game.

Worked on my Toshiba notebook with an ATi X1250, and my home desktop with an nVidia 8800 GT.

Psycadelic colors = video driver problems, what kind of computer do you have? What video card are you using? What drivers are you running? Make sure your drivers are updated, grab the latest DirectX from http://www.microsoft.com/directx as well.

Yeah, Diablo gave me no problems except when I went to patch the game on Battle.Net I had to run as administrator so the program could patch itself properly, but other than that, no problems.

Also wanted to comment on this:
The reason Diablo 2 is limited to 800x600 is because at the time that's all computers could do reliably, and it was a limitation of the game engine. (all those sprites, any bigger and those old 32meg video cards would of died) Blizzard is all about making their games accessible by as many computers as possible, they invest a lot of money in hardware testing. Diablo 2 could be fair at any resolution, simply draw things larger at a higher resolution, but sprites don't scale as easily as polygons. Everything would get blocky unless they added multiple sets of sprites, Diablo almost shipped with just 640x480 like the first game, but they added 800x600 due to popular demand.

Starcraft, same thing, sprites don't scale as easily at polygons. At the time, sprites were faster than polys and more detailed.

The thing is, I have Diablo 2 LOD on 10 computers, all good for gaming. 2 out of 10 do the psychedelic graphics. One that uses windows Xp dose it when you open a menu, like inventory, or close a menu, or go into a cave...exe.... dose this randomly, Alt+tab can fix it some times for a shot while {30-45} sec.... Another with Vista will only do it in 800 x 600 resolution, and 640 x 480 is... well playable but looks slightly funny. All my computers are up to date with drivers. Xp is using an integrated intel tower graphic card, and vista is an iterated laptop nvidea. So I know it has something to do with integrated graphic cards, regardless of compatibility mode, or 2d-3d mode.... still dose it. Dedicated memory or not.

Funny cuz, Starcraft 1 will do it on a computer that can run Diablo 2 lod just fine, I thought it was cuz it was HD and widescreen. But now I doubt it. I think its a directX thing, different cards use directX in different ways. Happens on laptops more than towers, built in cards are the problem, well at-least thats my guess.
