Dhcp errors, warnings listed in Event Viewer

I followed advice from the MS newsgroups to solve the SmartBridge Alert which
was appearing on startup (this problem just began the past few days). As
followup I looked at the Event Viewer and see that under System, an alert, or
a warning followed by an alert, with the source as Dhcp is showing up almost
every time I use the computer. I have WinXP Professional, am individual PC,
no network, began using a high-speed DSL connection thru ATTYahoo in Dec
2006. I notice that the alerts show up only then; my computer had been
packed away since June and the Event Viewer shows no alerts like that in the
past. Any suggestions as to why these alerts are posting? I do notice that
sometimes the DSL seems awfully slow to make connection. Thanks to everyone
who tries to help in the newsgroups!

Could you send the exact error message please by double clicking the Error
message you will get more Info about it and you can copy and paste in your

Also it will be handy if you mention your OS version and
Anti-Virus,application and how you assign the IP address is it Auto or
static?.

My Reply in Line:

First clear your caches, internet files and delete all cookies and run Disk
CleanUp and scan for malwares :
http://www.safer-networking.org for Spybot S&D

Since you said your Computer was packed away from June, try to open the case
and buy an Air Compressed Can and Clean put the Dust or you can blow it
gently but not with a cloth, please avoid doing this.

This one is for your LAN have nothing to do with your WAN, it could be time
sync or your LAN setting need to configured.
Also Disabling the DNS Client Service can help.

How your LAN settings if you have one?.
Do you have other computers on this network?.
Is the modem Okay all lights Green?.
How old the computer by the way?.

HTH.
