DHCP Client will connect to W2k Svr sometimes

I have a WinXP SP2 Pro client w/ firewall turned off. I have a W2k SP4
Server running DNS and DHCP. I have configured the client to obtain
addresses from the server DHCP after connecting to the domain. This setup
has worked for a few months. Now my XP client has lost it's IP address.
When I do a "Release and Renew" from the command line, I will only get an IP
from the DHCP server about 1 out of 7 times...only after waiting a while for
it to get the address.

Any idea what is causing this behavior?

Thx,

jason

Flakey network cable/connections/switches/routers/etc? Any similar problems
with other PCs on the domain? Any events of note in Event Viewer on the
client and/or Event Viewer or DHCP log file on the server?

I have checked all switches, patch panels, cables and connections with
nothing unusual showing up. The problem occurs on every client in the
domain (12 clients). Only consistent error in all client event viewers is:

Event ID: 1054
Source: Userenv
"Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network.
(The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.)
Group Policy processing aborted."

I have looked this up on www.eventid.net. I have tried the following
Microsoft Support articles:

M816045
MSW2KDB
M840669
M299563
M239924
M326152
M239924
M247811
M326152
M298656
M260371
M237675

None of these have worked for me.

I do not have an event log for DHCP..is there a way to set one up?

Thx,

Jason
