DHCP and a boot file

Hi guys got a question about dhcp & tftp servers and boot file.

I have a win 2K AD environment…. 2K and XP clients…

I got 2 laptops with no docking stations no floppy or cdrom drives. The
laptop is 2 years old thus I can’t boot to usb memory sticks…

I reserved these laptops’ Mac address in the dhcp server and setup a TFTP
server via 3rd party software. I set the laptop to boot to network on
initial boot.

The laptops connect to the dhcp server and the tftp but I need to transfer a
file so that the laptop can be bootable and connect to a server to some share
point to install an OS…

I an new to boot files but I tried to push a image of a windows 98 boot disk
as well as an image of a network boot disk with tcpip and netbeui protocols
but no go.

There is a storage limit on the boot partition that is used to boot to the
network on the laptop. The file have to be very small for it to be
transferred…

Can some one direct me to somewhere where I can learn to make a boot file or
what other solution can be done with DHCP and TFTP.

All help is welcomed..

Goku,

Ina case like this, you don't have a lot of options. It might be easier to
pull the drives and image them if this is only a one-time deal. Otherwise,
take a look as doing RIS images or follow up with the TFTP boot.

Tools like REMBO and the like might be your only option.

I should have responded before but after posting this I did research on RIS
and will try it.
Thanks I will keep you posted.
