Hi all

Doing WHQL tests we noticed that on some computers Device path exerciser
test does not show up in Test manager of HCT 11.2 test kit.
HCT11.2 is installed on Compaq 230M or HP vectra VL800 under Windows XP
SP1.If same kit is installed on Compaq Evo 530 test shows up but sometimes
also dissapears from test manager, usually rinnung any small test (like
Sysparse) and restsrting the PC causes it to appear. All computers have
latest Windows updates,512 MB ram and all drivers including motherboard
chipset and bios are updated.
Is there any way to undertsand why the test does not appear on some PCs and
appears on others and is it possible to run it manually?

Thank you for your help

Alex

Device Path Exerciser (DPE) appears if there are unsigned drivers loaded in
the system. If the system contains only signed or out-of-the-box drivers,
which are also signed, then DPE will not show up in the lists of tests to be
run.

We perform testing of HP unsigned drivers and the Device PAth Exerciser does not appear
Let me explain in more details what is going on
Windows XP Pro English service pack 1 with all criltical updated installed on Compaq Evo D230(Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz,512 MB RAM

1.HP LaserJet PCL6(or PS,or PCL5e) unsigned driver is installed via Plug and Play
2.HCT 11.2 installation with imaging - printer option set
3.After opening HCT all tests are there but Device path exerciser does not appear
4.On Compaq Evo 510 ( Pentium 4 1.8 Ghz,384 MB RAM) when I perform same steps on same printer - Device Path Exerciser show up
All drivers and BIOS are updated on those computers
Same issue is observed when we use parallel or USB connectio

Windows 2003 32 bit server Standard edition with all criltical updated installed on Compaq Evo D230(Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz,512 MB RAM) or Compaq Evo 510 ( Pentium 4 1.8 Ghz,384 MB RAM

1.HP LaserJet PCL6(or PS,or PCL5e) unsigned driver is installed via Plug and Play
2.HCT 11.2 installation with imaging - printer option set
3.After opening HCT all tests are there but Device path exerciser does not appear

On DELL Dimension 8300 computer( Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz,512 MB RAM) we perform same steps with same printer driver and Device path exerciser appears in test manager

Please help us to detemine what is wrong in our setup .We"ll appreciat all troubleshooting tip

Thanbk you for your help

Please define "installed via plug-and-play." Does this mean that you are
answering the questions and pointing to the drivers when the printer is seen
as needing drivers or are you running a setup program to install the
drivers?

Hi Loren

When I connect the printer and power it up the plug and play hardware wizard
ask me if I want to install software automatically or select driver ,I
choose select driver and browse to the folder with driver files ,no setup is
done.

I recieve also digital signature warning since the driver is unsigned.

Thank you for your kind help

DPE only appears when there are kernel mode drivers present and printer
drivers are typically not kernel mode drivers. On the machine where DPE does
appear, you can write down the filename of the driver(s) being tested and
compare it against the printer drivers. This will reveal if the drivers
being tested are the printer drivers or a different kernel mode driver that
is already loaded on the system.
