Device installer error after upgrading to SP2 - problem with STI Drivers ?

We have two laptops each has AMD Athlon 64-bit processor, 3000 Mhz+.

The problems appears to occur following loading STI derivers for a scanner.

These laptops work fine with Win XP SP1. On upgrading to SP2 each reports
"windows could not load the installer for Computer. Contact tour hardware
vendor for assistance" on ALL devices after upgrading to SP2. If you
attempt to look at the drivers windows freezes. You cannot uninstall the
drivers. Note that the applications still run OK.

I have installed Win XP SP2 as a clean install. This worked OK until the STI
driver was loaded.

I have installed Win XP SP1 as a clean install. Installed the STI drivers
OK (all applications working as expected) but after upgrading to SP2 the
problem started.

Any assistance would be welcomed.

TIA

Anything about this problem from the actual manufacturer of the offending
scanner?

Thanks for replying.

I have sent them details and I understand they are investigating. They have
never seen the error message before !

I hoping to get some ideas here.

Further investigation shows that uninstalling SP2 clears the issue.
