device hard disk has a bad block

Startup is slow..taskbar freezes for a few sec before can be used. Also, I
can't print anything (document or internet) Print job automatically freezes
screens and job show "deleting" instead of "spooling" -all drivers are
ok...no viruses...only thing found in event viewer under "system" is msg "The
device harddisk has a bad block" could this be problem preventing other prog
and print jobs to run efficiently? And does this mean I automatically have to
replace hard disk or is there something I could do to repair..

thanks for help...

Drives throwing up errors like that are best addressed by replacement. You
can maybe dredge a bit more use out of it, but consider the value of your
time. A new 160 gig hard disk can be under CDN$100. How much time will
you waste, knowing you'll have to repeat the work, to make that $100
worthwhile?

Go to run,type:cmd In cmd type:CHKDSK C: /R Agree to restart,type:EXIT
Restart pc...This lets xp attempt to repair bad sectors (bad block),it may
work
for awhile if regular mntce is run (defrag, etc),think about a new drive
down the
road...
