Determining the WAN IP ADDRESS

Guest

Good Evening,

I have 4 computers in my home all running windows XP Pro. All 4 are
connected through my wireless router. I now the individual local IP Addresses
for each one. For example if i were to try to connect outside of the local
area network, how do i determine the WAN IP address for each terminal. Any
assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Go to any of the PCs and using IE (or your favorite browser) go to the
http://www.whatismyip.com site. A better solution though is to use a free
dynamic naming service like No-IP.com or DynDNS and call using a fully
qualified domain name (FQDN) that is mapped to your ISP assigned public IP
address.

http://www.dyndns.com

Some routers have support for those built-in. If not, you can run a small
program on one PC which contacts the No-IP or DynDNS servers on a time
scheduled basis. You IP is then mapped to the FQDN. It works quite well.

All four computers will all have one WAN address. They use NAT to
individually you Internet connection. Try www.ipchicken.com or
www.whatismyipaddress.com to see what your shared WAN address is.

Read up on NAT at
