detecting proxy settings

I have a problem with my browser always wanting to detect
proxy settings. Sometimes it hangs up for sometime and
other times it's quick. Why does it hang for so long and
how can I fix it?

If you don't need it uncheck it.

Tip: most reliable way to make changes and make them stick is
first to close all IE windows (and then verify that iexplore.exe
is no longer an active process); then use the Internet Options
Control Panel applet.
