Detect NTFS in DOS

I have installed Windows XP on an NTFS partition and also
have another HD with NTFS. The problem is that now I
wanna remove XP so I want to format my c:\ drive but when
I boot using my old Win 98 boot disk it doesnt detect the
NTFS hard disks. Is there anyway for it to detct the NTFS
partition like by installing some more files into the
floppy.

DOS knows nothing about NTFS.

IF you want to delete the NTFS partitions you boot from a DOS floppy, run
FDISK and tell it to remove the non-DOS partitions, which will be, in this
case, the NTFS partitions.

If you just want to install XP 'new' then boot from the XP CD and do
everything from there.

Use the WinXP install disc to remove the partitiom, create
a new one . . . or Google search for a DOS program to
remove NTFS - there's a DBUG routine that's widely
available . . . Also with a Win98SE boot disc you should
be able to remove the NTFS partition & create a new
one . . .

Good Luck !

A win98 bootdisk wont see a logical drive in an NTFS extended partition.
It will tho, using fdisk, delete a primary ntfs partition. Since you
want to remove all traces of XP, your best bet may be to wipe the drive.

From the 98 boot floppy run FDISK. Say Y to 'Large disk support?'. Use
its option to 'remove non-DOS partition' (ie the NTFS one) and then make
a new DOS Primary one. Reboot to FORMAT C: and install Win98
