Desperately seeking : free website search engine indexer/builder PLEASE HELP

Hi everyone,

I hope someone here can help me. For my work I've got to put a search function
online on our website, so that our visitors can search by words or a
combination of words in our website. The resultpage should then give the links
for the searched words.

I've looked everywhere, but I only seem to find commercial programs like
Xtreem SiteXpert or Search Engine Builder Pro (which does exactly what I
want)...

Doesn't anyone know a free utility that does the job,

As others have suggested, Google might be a candidate. Try this:
http://www.google.com/searchcode.html

And, a plug for the google scraper: Scroogle. It'll do the basics w/out
the cookies, access logging, etc. See: www.scroogle.org/masters.html

Please let us know what you end up using (and why!)

Just put a google search box there and limit it to your site with the

site:your.website.com.au

dunno if this is quite what you're looking for, but it may be of
use/interest...

It's pretty simple (it needed to be), but it worked very well for some off-
line pages (contact lists) I used for a while at work
