Desktop icons sort

How does one get Vista Home Premium to sort the icons on my desktop by name
(alpha order). My Vista's idea of alpha order is: a b c c f f j m a c c c c
c c e g g m o o o o r r s w. I can ask it 20 times and they will always
come out in this sequence. Veeerrry interesting ! But annoying.
All help appreciated. Regards.

Try this. Start to 'rename' a few in the first group and then a few in the
last group, and see if any of then start with a space or non-alpha-numeric
character, such as a period or apostrophe.

That's the annoying part of it all. I have already "renamed" the whole list
twice and nothing happens. Of course I rename to the same name but I
actually delete the name and type it in again. No Go! Oh well!

are they all on the same desktop? remember what you see on your desktop is
really two desktops: the user's and public. maybe it's showing you the
contents of the one desktop sorted, followed by the contents of the other
desktop sorted.

No matter how many times I arrange my icons, eventually (and seemingly
randomly) they end up auto-arranged at some point or another. Windows
has been not really saving my desktop layout for years.
