Desktop Icons duplicated

Every time I put a new application onto my computer I get two Icons,
If I delete one of them. it goes, all well and good.
At the end of the day I switch off. When I switch my computer on again I get
two again. This happens to all Icons except the AOL Internet Icon.
I have now removed all Icons from my desktop, and use the "Start" button.
Can anyone help?

Its only a different way ropund it, but for now, when you installl a new
application, at the very end, de-select the box saying "Add Desktop Icon" or
similar, and this will stop it placing an icon at all.

^^ hope its fixed soon!

From David Candy:

Open Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) and go to these locations:

[HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders]
Set "Desktop" value as "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop"

[HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders]
Set "Common Desktop" value as "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Desktop"

Restart Windows.

Both these lines are the same as yours.
I have been onto your site and downloaded 'Registry Mechanic' I have over
200 problems. Do you think I should try the full version?
Is there a UK site?

Hi Peter,

Have you checked the "Shell Folders" key as well? BTW, I don't sell Registry
Mechanic.
