Desktop folder in System32 folder

I have an unsual branch in my XP folders:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Is this likely to be due to a Win98 app installing itself on XP?

And what about this shortcut:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Start Menu\Programs\WMP 10
But I am sure WMP 10 would not use win98 installation code on WinXP/

Hi,

No, that's quite normal, and IIRC is first created at the initial
installation of WinXP.

By the way ... unless you are really experienced ... don't muck with the
contents of that folder. The registry has key pointers to the profile under
that folder.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-18 point to this folder.

Yikes! I've started hacking those folders.

What might happen?

Don't worry ... I've mucked with it too. It is used in some cases in
creating a new user, in conjunction with the Default User profile.

I've gone in there to setup Quick Launch defaults, as well as removed
Program Files defaults. I also customized the icons for the folders.

Most people, when they don't know what something is, just delete the entire
folder tree.
