Desktop doesn't refresh automatically and screen saver doesn't wor

Hi,
These two things seem to have happened at the same time - no idea why. If I
save something to the desktop I have to right click and refresh for it to
appear - if I move something from the desktop again I have to manually
refresh. The screen saver doesn't start.
SP2 has been applied but this problem started weeks after this.
Yours hopefully
 
What happens when you disable the screen saver (select none)? Does your
desktop still fail to refresh? Also, you might see if things change without
a background image if you have one.
 
Thanks Jon. I have done as yopu suggest but it has no effect. What is
interesting is that folders on my desktop also don't refesh automatically,
however other folders do! This is a real strange one!
