Desktop and Laptop BCM

I have BCM running great on my desk top PC. But, I need the same info on my
laptop when I travel. I finally stumbled through and created a BCM database
on my laptop, but it is empty.

How do I get the BCM data on my laptop to syncronize with the BCM data on my
desktop the same as my other contact info, calendar and email?

Thanks!

Hi David,
There is no way to share the bcm Database between 2 computerswith BCM v1.
However if you upgrade to BCM v2 then you should be able to share database

Thank you for writing. Not the answer I wanted, but I won't waste time
trying to figure it out.

How do I upgrade to v2?

V2 shared db won't fix the problem because the shared db will be on the
desktop. Once the laptop is disconnected from the office lan, it will
not find the db.

A solution is:
1) To share Outlook items (Calendar, etc) copy pst between desktop and
laptop, or sign-up for a hosted Exchange account.
2) Export and Import BCM data between desktop and laptop.

Thank you for your input.

What is a hosted Exchange account and where do I sign up for one?

A hosted Exchange account is where an ISP runs an Exchange server on
the internet and you rent space and email address on it. It's similar
to a regular email service, but because they use Exchange, they will
also store the data in your other Outlook folders--you can logon with
Outlook from Office, laptop, or home PC and always see the same data in
Outlook.

Search for "hosted exchange" on a search engine and it should return a
selection of the providers offering that service. I haven't used any so
I can't make any recommendations.

If it's just the BCM data you need when travelling, you could just back up
and restore the data between machines.

I guess you would need to copy your calendar info etc separately.

Perhaps another way to put it is that "Synchronizing" between PC's is not at
all possible with BCM. The only thing close is the option to copy and then
overwrite back and forth between each PC. Of course this is not what
synching is. The only way to truly "share" BCM data between PCs is via a
constantly connected peer-to-peer network inside of one location. Remote
(offsite) sharing of BCM is not possible by design. The BCM definition of
the word "sharing" has a limited meaning of everyone under 1 roof. In
today's mobile environment "sharing" often means remote access to a central
source of data (server based). Microsoft's solution to this broader
definition of "sharing" is via their more complex and expensive CRM solution.

I wish that BCM was designed to be server based and easily accessed via
remote users. BCM is purposely designed NOT to be server based. Being able
to share data is not the same as being server based. For an alternative
solution that IS designed for this go to www.avidian.com. By the way, I do
not have any promotional relationship or gain with Avidian. They simply have
a great solution that a lot of frustrated BCM users can consider!
