Designing an add-on based application

Hello NG,

I have a feeling that this question might not be right for this NG but
I got pointers in the past regarding where to look to find the solution
so again I have hope someone will point me in right direction.

I am trying to create an application (for my own learning experience)
that will work totally on add-ons. Means, application will do few/basic
things (say create notepad kind of text files) but rest can be enhanced
or modified (or implemented) via plug-and-play add-ons. For example my
user of application can add their own add-on to make that application
for calculating rent or give functions to add text file to any given
database etc etc.

Where should I go to find How-Tos to understand designing needs,
understanding of concept, and language examples (C#/C++) for add-on
driven applications.
