Design template changes affects colors of type & boxes

This has been driving me crazy for the longest time. Hopefully a kind soul here can help. Let's say I set a background design template, like "Pulse" for example, then I go about creating my presentation, making the fonts and boxes a certain color, but then I don't want Pulse I want to use my own graphic as the background. So I remove Pulse and have it be a "blank presentation" and I add my graphic to the master page. NOW ALL OF MY TYPE AND BOX COLORS HAVE CHANGED!!! My yellow type goes to black and my black boxes change to gray. Then I have to go and manually change everything back -- on all 180 slides

Does anyone know how to change a design template and not have it alter the font/box colors

Thank you!!!

Patrick,

Generally the slide template controls how a presentation will look.

The "slide master" sets how a presentation should look (view > master >
slide master)

If you change anything on the slide master that change will affect all your
slides. So in your particular case....I've have gone

View
Master
Slide Master
Then selected that parts of the "pulse" template I wanted to remove.
Then add what I wanted instead.

By applying the "blank presentation"....which uses a different "color
scheme" to "pulse", you have changed the look of your presentation.

Your best bet, may be to re-apply the "pulse" template....then edit the
"slide master" to how you want your presentation to look.

Editing 180 slides by hand is not the route to follow. Editing the "slide
master" is the way to go!

Hello,

What you are seeing is how changing the color scheme (which is one of the
things that happens when you change your design) affects any color
formatting in a slide where the color was chosen from the color scheme
palette.

Here are some links to Microsoft Office Assistance topics about color
schemes in PowerPoint:

About Color Schemes:
http://office.microsoft.com/assistance/preview.aspx?AssetID=HP051945331033

Applying a Different Color Scheme to Slides:
http://office.microsoft.com/assistance/preview.aspx?AssetID=HP051947841033

If you want some color formatting in your slides to not be affected when
you change designs and/or color schemes then you need to not choose colors
from the current color scheme palette of 8 colors when applying color
formatting to your content.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
provide more or different options for handling color when changing designs
or color schemes (or specific suggestions for color schemes), don't forget
to send your feedback to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)

Patrick, TAJ has given you the workaround, and John's given you the MS
articles. There's also information on my site (URL's in signature) about
how color schemes work in PPT. Check the link to Color Schemes.

Just as an aside, I also added some info just tonight on how to leverage
the multiple masters in PPT 2002/2003 to help with some color scheme
stuff. That's in the multiple masters stuff at
http://www.echosvoice.com/creatingmultipletemplates.htm Unfortunately, I
don't think it will help with your 180 slides, though.
