Design mode off document open

I created a word doc with radio bottons and check boxes from the tool box in
Word 2003. Each time I open the doc design mode is on and must be turned off
before the document is useable. I would like to open the document with
design mode off so that the document can be used immediately. Suggestions?

Hi, Joe. Sounds like you unnecessarily used the Control Toolbox instead of
the Forms toolbar to create your form. The Control Toolbox objects are
really designed to work on userforms with VBA programming. When you open a
doc with controls on it, and you don't enable macros, you get design mode.

Thank you! So the controls in the toolbox cannot be used for word documents?
They way my "form" is set up, independent radio buttons seemed to make the
most sense. Additional comments?
